About the Movie
College coeds go looking for love during spring break in Fort Lauderdale. Musical comedy hijinx features pop star Connie Francis in her first film appearance. Co-starring Golden Globe-nominee George Hamilton ("Love at First Bite," "The Godfather III") and Yvette Mimieux ("Light in the Piazza").
I fell in love with this movie as a little girl. It gave me high hopes for college, mainly spring break. Glad that they have it available. George Hamilton stole my heart.
A sexually uncomfortable experience.
While this movie features a beautifully crafted color palette and production, the sexist overtones cast an eerie violent shadow over the film. Most of the male characters objectify women seen clearly in the male's fluid sexual appetite. They move from girl to girl without consideration for their feelings. This is the epitome of sexism in the mid century; a lack of compassion for the female condition. The most aggressively degrading feature of the film is a young woman being raped and hospitalized without any real action being taken. The police chief is notified of the rapist and his actions and responds by saying nonchalantly "we'll get in touch with him". Meanwhile the raped girl is essentially ignored by male characters. This film is a reminder of the recent inequalities that were rampant and very socially accepted in american society.
