About the Movie

A wallet lost and found opens the door - slightly - to Georges and Marguerite’s romantic adventure. After examining the ID of its owner, it is not a simple matter for Georges to turn in to the police the red wallet he has found. Nor can Marguerite retrieve her wallet without being piqued with curiosity about the person who found it. As George and Marguerite navigate the social protocols of giving and acknowledging thanks, turbulence enters their everyday lives. WILD GRASS is based on the novel " L’incident " by French novelist Christian Gailly.

Rotten: Technically facile grope at dark romance. – Duane Byrge, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 9, 2010

Fresh: Wild Grass is carefree and anarchic, takes bold risks, spins in unexpected directions. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 15, 2010

Fresh: At first it isn't clear whether the film that unfolds is a thriller, romance, or mystery. As it happens, it is all of the above. – Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jul 8, 2010

This film is amazing!

Fun, playful, more of a poem about life than a film!

An Airplane Ride Ending

A man who has quirks, foreboding and historic, enters the life of a woman, independent, proficient at flying. He complicates her life, transmits his quirk as if it is a virus, and they go flying, taking his wife along for the ride of their lives.

I would guess this film is about the contagion of evil, like wild grass, its title, can overwhelm a well-ordered farmland.

It's an interesting yet unsatisfying ending, with the man uncomfortable with his pants fly stuck open, and the woman, allowing the novice to take control of the plane, symbol of her life.

The true ending, sprung before the final ending of the film, even titled "Fin". But on they go up in the beautiful sky to fulfill the mystery. And then a coda, about cat food if his granddaughter becomes a cat. Thankfully, fade to black and roll titles.

Why the tricks at the conclusion? The director lacked courage in his own construction?
A sudden jealousy, a mind broken under pressure, evil contagion for his main character?
Resnais caught the virus, too.
