Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: All of this busyness drains away the film's charm, turning what might have been a naughty and whimsical frolic into something glib, hectic and sour. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Oct 29, 2010

Rotten: A very French 1993 farce gets a less comfortable British redo in Wild Target, a hectic, charm-challenged comedy about a fussy bachelor hitman who can't bring himself to off a winsome thief. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Oct 27, 2010

Rotten: Since irony is so often director Jonathan Lynn's weapon of choice, Wild Target should have been a good fit. It's not quite. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Oct 28, 2010

Rotten: Wild Target takes aim at various styles and genres and misses the mark every time. – Christy Lemire, Associated Press, Oct 28, 2010

Well I loved it...

For the record, I'm American, but also a big fan of British humor, and I found this movie funny, sweet, quirky, and definitely entertaining. I would recommend it if you like movies like Death at a Funeral (the British one, far superior to the American remake), Pirate Radio (aka The Boat that Rocked), or the new BCC series Sherlock, etc. Also I enjoyed the actors quite a lot, it was nice seeing Grint (Ron from Harry Potter) in something new.

I'm rather surprised it's getting this much negativity! It's by no means a masterpiece, but I throughly enjoyed the hour and a half I spent with it.

It's entertaining

I'll tell you what's funny....people who try so hard to sound intelligent and write such a well thought out and deep review of a simple comedy. Maybe they should get a job,LOL! Anyway, this is british humor and it's entertaining and fun to watch. If you want a movie to rent that you can just sit back and giggle a little, this is it. Rent it and have a little fun.

Pure Brit Dark Comedy - Fantastic!

AWESOME film. Loved every minute of it. But fair warning: If you don't find British humor funny - then this isn't for you.

This is UK dark comedy at its absolute warm-from-the-tap finest.

Would have never guessed Bill Nighy could be the lead actor - never. Especially after seeing him the Underworld series. But wow - given the opportunity, the man has the cool styling and elegance of Cary Grant. Admittedly he's not the looker type, but he makes up for it in pure panache. Will never see him as a pure second player again. That Director Jonathan Lynn saw this is, in my opinion, a true stroke of brilliance.

Not being a Harry Potter fan, I have never seen any of the films. So this was my first exposure to Rupert Grint. This guy is hilarious! Played his role as the fumbling slacker turned apprentice assassin perfectly. Kid has some serious acting chops - I hope his career path follows a similar UK actor that I enjoy watching - Simon Pegg.

And another first for me - my first Emily Blunt film. Not only is she stunning - she's incredibly funny! A lethal combination - no pun intended. The world is her oyster and she certainly deserves it. Looking forward to more from this young actress.

Can't say enough good things about this film. The one single drawback - pet lovers be warned. (hands raised in defense)
