Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Godard's whimsical celebration of romance, sentiment, musical comedy, color film, the city of Paris and the abundant charms of Ms. Karina herself, who at the time was also Madame Godard.
Fresh: Godard light, but not lite: Its breezy postures front for melancholia.
Fresh: Une Femme Est une Femme moves us now because it's so playful and the players are so young.
Fresh: The most playful film to come out of the French New Wave, it's also the last time Jean-Luc Godard appeared to have any fun.
Godard at his most playful and inventive
Godard's first color film stars his then beau, Anna Karina, as the lovely Angela. She desperately wants a baby but her boyfriend refuses so she decides to turns to his friend. It's not so much the story that makes this special so much as the outrageous soundtrack and unusually editing techniques that gives this film a vivacious and colorful energy that few films can match. At a modest 82 minutes it always impresses me how much eye candy Godard can cram on screen. Can't recommend this film enough. If you like godard, new wave, or french films in general don't hesitate to pick this up.
