About the Movie

Wonder Wheel tells the story of four characters whose lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny (Kate Winslet), a melancholy, emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty (Jim Belushi), Ginny's rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey (Justin Timberlake), a handsome young life-guard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina (Juno Temple), Humpty's long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father’s apartment. Poetically photographed by Vittorio Storaro, Wonder Wheel is a powerful dramatic tale of passion, violence, and betrayal that plays out against the picturesque tableau of 1950s Coney Island.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Wonder Wheel seems more like a cobbled-together afterthought than the romantic melodrama it seeks to be. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Dec 11, 2017

Rotten: Otherwise, the move shows evidence of Allen's late-career bad habits: The script plays like an unedited rough draft, or the work of someone who no longer has anyone to tell him he needs to try harder. – Gary Thompson, Philadelphia Inquirer, Dec 7, 2017

Rotten: Allen, 82, has his ups and downs, and while there have been more downs than ups lately he is always worth the benefit of the doubt. But "Wonder Wheel" is a ride to nowhere. – Adam Graham, Detroit News, Dec 15, 2017

Rotten: Everything strains to serve an underwritten story that resembles a community theatre stage production more than a major motion picture. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Dec 7, 2017

Excellent film!!!!. Kate Winslet, Oscar. Jim Belushi, Oscar. Yes!

Woody Allen is the Standard

Amazing filmmaking. Kate Winslet by far the best performance of the year. Jim Belushi fantastic. Oscars? Of course it should all around. Will it? No. Because people can’t separate, deal from lack of knowledge, and operate out of fear. That’s Hollywood- caring what everyone thinks at every corner, while disguised as brave.

The usual dribble

Movie by a CHOMO. GROSS.
