Charles (Joseph Mazzello) has no idea what he's in for when his Granfather, Stoney (Peter Fonda), comes to Minneapolis for medical treatment. A pampered, big-city kid, Charles has a difficult time relating to this old man from a sheep ranch. But when Stoney's pal Shuck (Kris Kristofferson) shows up to break him out of the hospital, Charles is swept up in the adventure of a lifetime. From a stolen hearse to a wild, hilarious race back to the Badlands of North Dakota, Charles learns to be a "wooly boy" and appreciate his roots. This funny, heartwarming story underlines the power of family and friendship, and shows us that it's never too late.
Wooly Boys is formulaic AND fun!
The old geezers straightening up the self-centered kid is re-worked a bit to make for an easy viewing movie--if you are a fan of Kris Kristofferson (and I am), you'll enjoy him in this. The kid from Simon Burch holds his own here, and Peter Fonda is credible in his part. Definitely NOT a Second Hand Lions but pleasant enough.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Hadn't really heard anything about it and rented it because it was in the iTunes rental special offers one week. Good, heart-warming story with plenty of humourous moments. Definitely worth renting.
Talk about a sleeper! Kris Kristofersson and Peter Fonda play off each other's character's idiosyncracies and faults so well you'll think you're at a family reunion. And that's a good thing. A great story about two old codgers who would do anything for each other--and do.
