2011 SXSW World Premiere and winner of countless other festival audience awards all over the country, WUSS is the darkly comic drama of Mitch, a high school teacher, who faces constant ridicule after he's repeatedly beaten up by several of his own students. When he hooks up with a student with a dark past to seek revenge, the two of them bond to fight back and Mitch is a Wuss no more. Bonded in battle, the student and teacher form a friendship that stretches the use of the word inappropriate. A FilmBuff Presentation.
slow but has its moments
I wish i had a high school teacher that smoked pot & played D&D =) . punk teens, teenage angst is a product of the indoctrination system, oh(education) system. if only kids could learn who & what they are & what theyre here to do =) just let um do what they passionate about, instead we got abunch of clones, cogs in the machine, they gots so much technology at they fingertips yet they the most ignorant ppl on the planet. kids are born scholars but school kills they natural desire to learn ~_~...so so sad
Nothing Wussy about Wuss
Clay Liford's WUSS sets us up. The movie begins as if we are about to watch a crass spoof an all too familiar genre. Just as we think we know exactly what we are in for he quiet cleverly catches us off-guard. Lifford and his gifted cast lead us into a whole different kind of movie.
Liford has found an effective way to push us into some of our culture's darkest challenges. Constantly shifting between tone without ever losing focus. Funny, unsettling, menacing, crude, confrontational, provocative and tragic. At no time did any aspect of this movie feel false. And, at no time was I not entertained.
The only errors to be found relates to the way the movie has been "marketed" and titled. None of that actually represent what the movie does. There is much more going on in this movie than you suspect.
