Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Wolverine doesn't rise above the level of familiar competence. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Alas, there's nothing quite memorable here: much of the combat is just a whirl of movement photographed up close. As the X-Men series has progressed, the startling poetic extravagances of the first film have given way to flesh-pounding clumsiness. – David Denby, New Yorker, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Did the plot points stick in my head five minutes after leaving the theater? Not so much ... but I know I was having fun while watching. – Sara Vilkomerson, New York Observer, Jan 4, 2010

Rotten: Though Jackman is capable, as always, in the title role, there's no real weight to his travails, which play more as exposition than tragedy. – Christopher Orr, The New Republic, Sep 9, 2009

A complete and utter mess of a movie

I guess I should start this review by saying what is actually good about the movie, since there is some things that are done right. For starters, Hugh Jackman continues to give it his all as Wolverine (even if the script doesn't), Sabretooth is portrayed very well in this movie, and there are some decent action scenes in the movie. Unfortunately, these factors cannot prevent the movie from failing under the numerous problems, such as: the numerous continuity issues with the previous movies; the villain's (William Stryker, capably played by Danny Huston) plan doesn't make any sense (particularly when you see it fully revealed in the final act); Wolverine seems too civilized to be the animal a lot of people in the movie claim he is; some of the worst CGI I have seen in recent years; the treatment of Deadpool will infuriate fans of the character from the comics to no end; and worst of all, the movie seems pointless since Wolverine doesn't remember any of it. There's another Wolverine movie coming out this month, and from the looks of it, that will be the movie that we should've gotten with this one.

Wolverine is my favorite!! This movie is my favorite!!!! Hugh Jackman you are the BOMB!!!

It Isn't That Bad

Yes. The take on Deadpool in this movie wasn't very pleasing, and I also hated that someone like was in this. He does not belong in any X-Men or comic related story whatsoever. Still, it's a good popcorn flick. Not as good as the first two X-Men films or X-Men: First Class, but still guilty pleasure.
