Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: How many distinguished veterans of the Royal Shakesepeare Company does it take to make a bi-g-budget trashy movie? Well, two.
Rotten: The Last Stand is a hugely ambitious picture, and it would have been far more successful if Ratner had scaled it down to focus more on the interaction between the characters.
Fresh: Sillier than the Singer versions, Ratner's movie is also -- for this less-than-reverent X-Men fan -- more satisfying.
Fresh: [I] found myself strangely moved by the sense of relationships, friendly and unfriendly, coming to an end in a dull return to normality in the world of humans and mutants.
Where to begin... (SIGH) I can't believe I drove down the mountain from my camping trip to see this. It had great potential, however, there were so many subplots that the movie could have been about two and a half - three hours, but was only about one hour and 40 minutes. They added more cussing which was just annoying. They killed off most of the main characters in the first half of the film. Woverine healed way faster than he should have, just watch the other two to compare. When Jean Grey used her powers she looked like a demon. Angel's main power was apparently to stand with his wings opened and with his hands on his hips. And Halle Berry's complaining obviously won over Brett Ratner, because she had the second biggest role in the movie. There were more explosions than dialogue, which I guess is good for people who are easily entertained. The series was never supposed to be a blockbuster. Leave it to Brett Ratner to ruin a perfectly good Trilogy. Alas Bryan Singer... I knew you well. This movie gave me a headache and probably gave the actors one too; you can definitely tell if you see the interviews (If you didn't catch it the first time, watch it again, you'll see. In particular the interview with Patrick Stewart.). But enough ranting, my advice to any true X-MEN fans is DO NOT BUY IT.
This movie was so terrible. It sure had a lot of great special effects, but it lacked everything that made the first two movies what they were. Heart. People dying left and right. I walked out of the movie theater with a major headache after seeing this.
Ratner is a Hack
Leave it to Bret Ratner to trash this awesome franchise. If you liked the other 2 XMen movies, don't bother with this one. It's God-Awful.
