Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What's striking is the absence of triumphalism -- Bigelow doesn't shy away from showing the victims shot down in cold blood in the compound -- and we come away with the overwhelming sense that this has been a grim, dark episode in our history. – Tom Charity, CNN.com, Feb 5, 2013

Fresh: If you like World War II films, you'll enjoy this. – David Thomson, The New Republic, Jun 13, 2013

Fresh: Chastain makes Maya as vivid as a bloodshot eye. Her porcelain skin, delicate features and feminine attire belie the steel within. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Jan 11, 2013

Fresh: No doubt Zero Dark Thirty serves a function by airing America's dirty laundry about detainee and torture programs, but in its wake, there's a crying need for a compassionate Coming Home to counter its brutal Deer Hunter. – Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail, Jan 11, 2013

Long and Boring

There are some parts of this movie that keep me at the edge of my seat, but for the most part it dragged on, all the way to an anti-climatic ending. If you want to see this director's best work, watch The Hurt Locker.

overrated

Good, but not nearly as good as the reputation. The climactic scene overdid its strict realism: too dark, too constrained to only what the seal team members could see. By contrast, instances of terrorism earlier in the movie were joltingly sudden, frightening and compelling. If torture works toward that end, fine with me.

High Level Ops Movie

A lot of reviews said the movie was strung out and boring loving movies like this I thought it was extremely interesting and captivating from the beginning.

Some people said the ending was dropped, however the last 40 mins are of the actual overtaking of his compound and I found that part to be the best.

Great movie and hopefully the director continues to make military style in the future she is amazing at doing them.
