Small Moments of Joy

Gary Allan has never been your typical Music Row processed and packaged country star and he proves it again here. Everyone talks about the reasons behind the theme of his album "Tough All Over," including Gary. But, there's a light in his eyes on this video and in concert performances that has been missing for several years. Taken at face value, the video for "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" emphasizes joy that is focused; precisely and consciously chosen, which is a metaphor for the singer. The video quality is high in terms of scripting, editing and the vibrant dreamy colors that make Las Vegas nights unique. A worthwhile purchase for the visuals alone. Other videos to add to your collection when they're available: Man of Me, Songs About Rain. His new CD coming out March 6th has two new songs heard only in concert or iTunes: "As the Crow Flies" and "Feelin' Like That," both of which are worth a listen. You deserve more moments of joy, Gary.

Allan spent most of his twenties honing his skills as a new traditionalist country singer; finally, in 1996, he was picked...
