A Triumph In All Ways
Music videos are about two things, at their core: the audio (the music) and the visual (the video).
The visuals in this video are simply stellar, and the main reason for this is that it all just *works* together. You've got the run-down house that adds to the ambience of an abandoned relationship, the shattered crockery showing it's not quite done yet, the guy in the corner (with the drums) who's obviously been sent there because he's been a bad, bad boy. Add in the city burning toward the end, the visceral pounding of the drums as shown in the water glasses (moments of happiness in the relationship, now disturbed by its end?) and the pure visual nature of the "dust dancer", toss in a bit of quality acting from a beautiful woman, and you have a fine piece of video, regardless of the audio.
Then there's the music itself. What can you say about Adele that hasn't already been said by her singing itself? Powerful, moving, sends chills down your spine (in a good way)... all these and more, yet none do her singing justice. It's obvious from the pain and emotion that she injects into her singing that she's *been there*, experienced the things she's singing about, even as young as she is. The song is gripping, heartwrenching and triumphant, a powerful message that she's not going to take this lying down - even as her obvious weariness of the whole affair at the end of the video is plain to see.
Great song, great video, simply stunning. 5 stars, with no hesitation.
Adele is such an amazing artist!!! Love the song. And great video!! Definitely pre ordering the album. Great Expectations!!!
Is this what music videos have come to? Instead of something interesting she's sitting on a chair the WHOLE time. She may have a good voice, but don't make music videos if that's all you got.
