  • With his soaring rock pipes and down-to-earth personal appeal, Chris Daughtry broke the mold of what a modern American Idol should be — in the process, he became one of the show's most successful offspring ever. As the frontman of the group Daughtry, this earnest North Carolina family man is free to do what he does best: weld a bone-deep feel for melody and persuasive way with a lyric to a no-holds-barred, hard-rock crunch. The results are tunes like the scorching pleader "It's Not Over," and "No Surprise," a modern rocker that tugs the heart as hard as it hits the eardrums. Our Daughtry Essentials is just that — the must-have tracks of a 21st-century star, from the Idol encore cover of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive," to the soul-to-soul pledge of "Every Time You Turn Around," to deluxe-edition bonuses, like an intimate acoustic version of his signature song, "Home."

Love everything you have recorded so far Chris. It only reaffirms why YOU should have won. I am glad you did not, as you were free to record your kind of music, instead of wasting a year on whatever garbage they would have expected you to record. If you ever read this, one small request from a BIG FAN, please put out an acoustical version of Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman, you did it on Idol, and I thought it was the BOMB.

Daughtry has an amazing voice, and all these songs are beautiful...... but they could have added Life After You and September. Otherwise, great songs!

Review of the band.

I saw these guys live and they were awesome. The drummer had a non-stop flow going; the guitars were epic; the bass kept chugging; and Chris Daughtry's vocals layered on top added the icing to the cake. It was a great concert. Daughtry was great, although one of their opening acts, Mike Sanchez, was a great singer live, a little better than Chris himself.
