This is all wrong.
C'mon, The Ataris, Amber Pacific, and yet you DON'T have Black Veil Brides, Dance Gavin Dance, etc.

Post Emo is more like it

Mid nineties emo bands did not consisit of these bands. Great try though-- Dashboard, ok. Sunny Day, Promise Ring- for sure- the granddaddys- but where is Mineral, BoilerMaker, Giants Chair, The Anniversary, Further Seems Forever, ...heck I would even go as far as to put At The Drive in in there too, but Weezer? Fall Out Boy?

If you are looking to get into "emo" I would NOT recommend this at all. If you want a good sample as to what "emo" music is, listen to the (Don't Forget To) Breathe Compilation from Crank! records. Or even check out Directions from Polyvinyl Records. Now those are great introductions into what "emo" has to offer. From this Essentials list, here are the bands and tracks I would recommend for those looking to delve into "emo."

Rites of Spring - For Want Of (this song and album is considered the first real "emo" album)
Weezer - El Scorcho (or anything off of Pinkerton)
The Promise Ring - Why Did We Ever Meet (30 Degrees from Nowhere or Nothing Feels Good are great albums)
Jimmy Eat World - Crush (Hell just buy all of Clarity, the blueprint for modern emo)
Braid - You're Lucky to Be Alive (The predecessor band Friction is also good. Polyvinyl records sells Friction's discography for a great price)
The Get Up Kids - Don't Hate Me (I'd recommend the album Four Minute Mile)
Cap'n Jazz - In The Clear (you can easily find their 2 disc discography set)
Hoover - Return (An old school emo band from the Rites of Spring era)
Christie Front Drive - Fin (Buy their S/T album from Magic Bullet Records)
Boy's Life - Fire Engine Red (Buy the Departures & Landfills album)
Still Life - Truth (From Angry Heads With Skyward Eyes - a great early emo album)
Mineral - End Serenading (A great Sunny Day Real Estate influenced band)
Jejune - Drive By Negly

Finally here are some other bands worth checking out in the "emo" genre:
Rainer Maria, American Football, Elliot, & most importantly Texas Is The Reason
