Celebrated in our March 2016 issue, Stan Getz remains one of the most quietly influential saxophonists in jazz. He is perhaps best known for helping to popularize bossa nova music through a series of recordings with Brazilian guitarist Joao Gilberto in the 1960s, but he was also instrumental in the development of cool jazz, third stream and even bebop. His clean, warm tone may have started as an attempt to honor his hero, tenor saxophonist Lester Young, but today it has become one of the most recognizable voices in jazz. Commemorate the man some called "The Sound" with these landmark recordings from his prodigious career.
