Ministry Essentials

Much to their later embarrassment, Ministry had their first success as a lightweight dance-pop band in the early ‘80s. Leader and mastermind Al Jourgensen (the only consistent member) soon remedied that by steering the band to darker and edgier territory. Landmark albums like A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste helped to invent industrial metal, and made Ministry one of a handful of industrial bands widely embraced by alternative rock fans. Their run on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour, bolstered by the hit single “Jesus Built My Hot Rod,” blew the minds of many unsuspecting MTV fans.
