Ambition sometimes means doing the unexpected, and Portugal. The Man is the result of a sonic detour by John Gourley and Zach Carothers. A side project started by the two screamo punkers from Anatomy of a Ghost to explore their love for glam rock and psychedelia, Portugal. The Man's prog-rock aesthetic caught on quickly, landing the band major festival appearances at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. They've capitalized on the momentum with their prolific output, even collaborating with the likes of Danger Mouse and Mike D to become torchbearers for prog rock in the new millennium.
