EDITORS’ NOTES

Dolly Parton isn't just a singer, she's a symbol—for strength, for creative independence, for women succeeding in a world traditionally dominated by men. Sixty years after first making her mark on the world, she's as active as ever, writing and recording new songs for the Netflix film Dumplin' and, at the 2019 Grammys ceremony, being recognized by MusiCares—the Recording Academy's charity that helps musicians in financial, medical, and personal need—as its Person of the Year. To join them in honoring Dolly, we created this playlist and had the legend herself executive-produce its launch and handpick a few choice tunes. “I wanted to make sure I shared some of my favorite songs from the artists who helped me make the Dumplin' soundtrack so special,” she tells Apple Music. "I also threw in a few of my own for good measure!” From pioneers to contemporary players, this collection also showcases the brilliant women who used Dolly's ethos to shape country's past and define its future—along with some worthy odes by supportive male artists. We'll be regularly updating this playlist with new music, so if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
