Description

Add Water and Stir will focus on promoting adoption within communities of color, especially within the African American community. We want to give voice and visibility to families like ours who often seem left out of mainstream adoption conversations. We hope to educate others as we talk about our struggles and triumphs of parenting adopted children. Of course, there will be time for Mimi and ABM will kick it about all kinds of not necessarily adoption related topics as well.

Beautiful mix of attitude and info

My husband and I are African-Americans who have 6 children (ages 10-17) 1 bio & 5 adopted (2 international and 3 from our local social services).

I am in so many adoption conversations, but your voice has been missing for me. I have only listed to your recent episode regarding showers... I look forward to listening more. I really like how the two of you interact, recognize each other and laugh.

What I was looking for

So happy I found this podcast. We are in the process of adopting from foster care. Whenever I look in the social media and podcast world it's practically all non black households discussing adoption/fostering (even though statistically this isn’t the case). Listening to this makes me feel like part of a larger community. Thanks

A wise, informative and smilingly funny guide through adoption

I’m a white mom of two black kids in South Africa and stumbled upon this podcast. The hosts are great and have a real rapport. It seriously feels like you’re in a conversation amongst friends - and friends can be straightforward and tell you like it is and take no prisoners, but also be incredibly warm and amusing.
The two hosts have adopted kids of very different ages, and so there are really useful perspectives on the same issues for different aged kids.
There’s a lot of discussion in the adoption world that either paints a world of Rainbows and Unicorns or is extremely critical of the adoption process. This podcast is wonderfully balanced. I could listen to these two ladies for days.
