Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

Almost a really great podcast

Moments of Dax’s podcast are brilliant. Those moments are marked by his intellectual inquisitiveness and his gift for promoting conversation that is relatable to a broad audience. Those moments are most obvious with public intellectual guests like Sam Harris and Jonathan Haidt. But he is also able to spur interesting conversations with depth and breadth about lived experience and conscious reflection with guests like Andrea Savage—his best interview. That episode was both personal and cutesy in a good way, and profound and intellectually engaging explorative, like a good 60 Minutes celebrity segment.

Other times, however, the podcasts becomes just celebrity gab sessions about trite and glib Hollywood self-aggrandizement. The interview with Mila Kunis was dreadful for this reason, and she could have been a great guest And the second episode with Bell and the 45-minute celebration of Monica was difficult to endure. (Don’t get me wrong...Monica is great. But five minutes would have been sufficient.)

Dax’s show is best when it channels what was best about the Charlie Rose Show, or Comedians in Cars or Stay Tuned with Preet. If it was that most of the time, it would be a 5-star podcast. It is at its worst when it devolves into Stern or Hardwick or Inside Hollywood with their “aren’t we wonderful and interesting because we are famous.”

Ignore the haters...

This podcast is hands down the best for celeb interviews (Howard isn’t a podcast). I lurve Experts on Experts tambien. Dax your connection and interjections are what make a good podcast great. Haters hating on Monica, dude, if you can’t say something nice turn it off and move on, why take the time to write something? Makes no sense. You guys keep doing you, that’s why we listen. Cheers!

Dax is legit Monica is craaaaazy.

Yo Dax unless your using Monica to make you look more intelligent ditch her quick, she is intellectually dishonest and also everything that is bad about the left bro you smarter than that I’ll come back when you get rid of her and give you your 5th star.
