Weekly conversations about our world and the imagination it takes to live well in it. We wander in poetry and the arts, philosophy, science, psychology and religion, and elsewhere. "The end of childhood is when things cease to astonish us" and no matter our age, we can regain the "beginner's mind" we had as children.

Always illuminating

As a great appreciator of James Hillman's work, I really dig this weekly podcast. It's main theme is the imagination, so Hillman is only one of the threads Mr. Cheetham weaves in now and again. The other of course being Henri Corbin, about whom Cheetham has written several books. Oh, and Jung, too. And many more, whomever Cheetham is reading of late. A good, contemplative podcast that relieves the monotony of traffic (I listen in my car).

Antidote to rampant literalism

Tom Cheetham relentlessly pursues the centrality of the imagination and the poetic basis of mind as it appears in the thought of Henry Corbin, James Hillman, Carl Jung and many poets and thinkers.
This podcast is a great companion to Cheetham’s other websites especially The Legacy of Henry Corbin which I have been following for years. In contrast to fine organization of The Legacy of Henry Corbin blog this podcast is more relaxed, more akin to having tea with Cheetham in his studio while he talks about ideas he is passionate about. In fact you can sometimes hear Tom sipping tea, or going to his bookshelves to grab something that is on his mind. In addition to the topics on the podcast I enjoy Tom mentioning his farm chores or an upcoming event on his personal calendar as it makes me realize all this talk of esoterica and poetry and theology takes place in this world, not necessarily somewhere distant and inaccessible.
Don’t let the casualness mislead you. Each episode Tom shares many tributaries to follow and gives many insights. No one is better to elucidate Corbin than Cheetham who has written five Corbin related books.
I love this very worthwhile, useful podcast. My bookshelves have swollen from following up on leads from As Variously as Possible and The Legacy of Henry Corbin. Great podcast!
