Wide-ranging and entertaining podcast

Rebekkah is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about ambient music, and it shows in her podcast, which is a recording of her weekly radio show on stillstream.com. She puts together creative and interesting combinations of music, and has moved from a relative outsider in the community to someone who has not only become friends with many artists, but a collaborator with them (she’s a trained opera singer, voice actor, and former public radio host as well). She puts on a great show, and her personal warmth and love for the music comes across in every show.

Grandeur

I’ve always loved the mysterioso style (in the original Italian sense) with its haunting, remote quality. Ever since I was a small boy standing in the cold wind (to the vexation of my mother), watching the sun set, and hearing the horns of the trains sound far off. The uncanny feeling at crossroads, the numinous feeling when I hear a dog barking in the distance on a frosty night. I’m lucky to be living now when so many musicians, perhaps inspired by Wendy Carlos's Sonic Seasonings, are composing these long-form orchestrations, soundscapes which are really tone poems of deep reflection. And Rebbekah Hilgraves gathers them all together in one place. As a bonus, she weaves them together into a unique tapestry that will take you away from the tedious bounds of mundane reality.
