||CleanElevator Music||At long last! It’s time for the “Elevator Music” challenge episode! We have some GREAT entries for it, too! This was a fun challenge — from some traveling a few months ago, your friendly AWEsome host captured the rather horrifying sound of an el||11/10/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanOctober||It is autumn, at long last. After a brutal summer and a frightening and destructive storm season, the weather very suddenly turned to late autumn, with very little transition. So today we finally look at the autumn season, and feature a new album that||10/20/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanUn soffio…||A breath, a sigh... After an exhausting month of storms and their aftermath, this week's edition of At Water's Edge takes a breath. Or three. Today's program explores sighs of resignation, regret, and relief. We'll feature music by Giles Reaves, Crania||10/13/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanBy the Waters of Babble-On||We’ve had a sufficiency of water for a while (ahem.), but this is a great way to finish the trend: with the results of a challenge! This challenge is another field recording one, where artists were to take any combination of these samples and make m||10/6/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanAfter the Storm||At Water’s Edge is back on the air this week, and back at the water’s edge, albeit reluctantly. It is perhaps too obvious, but this week’s topic is “After the Storm.” The music is beautiful, and mournful.||9/29/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanGreen to Gold||It's easy to broadly describe the principal color of the warmer seasons as "green". But the green of spring is vastly different from the green of late summer and early autumn. The light of autumn, with dust in the air and the changing angle of the sun,||9/1/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanFor the Birds! or, Avian Flew||On this edition of At Water's Edge, another of our challenge episodes, this one having birds as its basis. We received over an hour of music from five artists: Museleon, Glenn Sogge, Skoddie, playman54 and Carbonates on Mars. The challenge was to take||8/25/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanHeat||This summer has been ridiculously, painfully, destructively hot. So what do we do? The only thing we can -- we make music. Even here in North Carolina, where it's been raining so much that I often have a moat around my house, it's still hot as blazes||8/18/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanFalling||Late summer is its own phenomenon, where the heat settles in, the colors slowly begin to fade and turn golden, and a few leaves already start to fall. As high summer wanes and the light begins to change, the colors of the earth change. Early harbingers||8/11/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||CleanDrone||Every now and then, it's nice to take a quiet day. Here in coastal North Carolina, it's been raining for weeks on end. Today brings that kind of gentle rain that makes it a good day to stay inside. On such days, one is inspired by gentle pursuits: read||8/4/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
I’ve always loved the mysterioso style (in the original Italian sense) with its haunting, remote quality. Ever since I was a small boy standing in the cold wind (to the vexation of my mother), watching the sun set, and hearing the horns of the trains sound far off. The uncanny feeling at crossroads, the numinous feeling when I hear a dog barking in the distance on a frosty night. I’m lucky to be living now when so many musicians, perhaps inspired by Wendy Carlos's Sonic Seasonings, are composing these long-form orchestrations, soundscapes which are really tone poems of deep reflection. And Rebbekah Hilgraves gathers them all together in one place. As a bonus, she weaves them together into a unique tapestry that will take you away from the tedious bounds of mundane reality.
