A rare gem
This podcast is a rare gem, coming directly from the heart of its creators. While perhaps not the most technically polished podcast out there, this fills a needed niche in the dance world. The experience is not unlike sitting in a living room or a dance studio’s lounge with a group of friends talking about a shared love. The podcasts have personal accounts of what it’s like to be a man in dance. The latest, an interview with professional dancer Joel Myers gives insight on the life of a male dancer in the Northwest. Joel covers the real world, how to get a job, life outside a large company and choices he had to face moving into the professional world. Joel also touches on teaching, working as a choreographer, and performing. Especially enjoyable are the recollections of how each male dancer started their ballet training. You have to laugh imagining two teenage guys loose in a dance store, trying on their gear back at home and cracking each other up as described by Joel. It’s great to have female guests as well who offer their insight on men in ballet. Their enthusiasm for guys in ballet (“we need partners!”) comes through loud and clear. They also add a personal touch; their observations about the quirkiness of training with new guys in ballet (all the male dancers shedding their shorts over tights one day in class) are both touching and funny! That is the strength of this podcast; hearing personal stories of challenge and triumph, of what its like to be a man in ballet! I recommend this highly for those interested in ballet and dance.
I love this podcast! David Hunter has managed to share some terrific insights about dance while keeping it real. There is nothing pretentious about this podcast series, just people sharing their views in a comfortable atmosphere. You'll feel like you are in a room of friends. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in dance--especially men! Be sure to check out his blog as well--there is some really terrific information there. I look forward to more episodes of this podcast!
Perfect!!!!! I'am a guy who loves ballet a lot but I didn't have a good starting point but with ballet for men it's all in one place and the podcasts are so different in a good way that's it feels like old friends are talking which is great!!!!thank you..thank you....
