Bird's Eye View is an unofficial Orioles podcast from the perspective of two die-hard fans. Here, we experience the ups and downs of Orioles baseball, and do our fair share of praising and mocking our beloved team. Our position from the cheap seats helps provide that “Bird’s Eye View.” What we bring is perspective. We offer content that will entertain, (very) occasionally inform, and more often than not, validate a little homerism. When it comes to the Orioles, this is your official source for a lack of insight, and baseless opinion.

Episode 387: Flag Court
Leading Off
The Orioles were 5-2, and got into some beef with the Milwaukee Brewers. It’s an interesting time to be an Orioles fan, that’s for sure.

Flag Court
Beyond the walls of justice. Beyond the field of fair and foul play. There is a court where cases are heard to determine guilt and innocence in high-fly crimes and misdemeanors. This court is Birdland’s highest court of appeal.
Welcome to FLAG COURT!
Around the Bases
In honor of the Orioles hitting home runs like they’re going out of style, we forego the rest of the bases, and we hit home plate each time…
Home Plate: Craig Kimbrel
Jake was wrong, and it’s amazing. Kimbrel may not have the velocity of old, but he has been something of a magician out there, continuing to shut things down in the back end of the bullpen.
Home Plate: Cole Irvin
Is he done as a starter? Probably. Is it as bad as we think? Probably. Is he better in the ‘pen than a Mike Baumann? Maybe? Ick.
Home Plate: Albert Suarez
What a fantastic story. After having the anti-Jake Fox Spring Training, Suarez was called up in a moment of need, and rose to the occasion. Can he cement himself as a fifth starter? Can he become an effective reliever?
Home Plate: Grayson Rodriguez
Grayson is learning to pitch at the major league level, and he is doing so convincingly. With or without his best stuff, he has become a comfortable presence in the Orioles rotation, and we are here for it.
Fantasy Boss
Jake takes week two, and is now up 2-0. Cedric Mullins got his 3rd dong in dramatic style on Wednesday, eking out a victory over Anthony Santander’s two.
The score now stands at 2-0, Jake. -
Episode 386: Mood Swings
Leading Off
With a few series under our belt, Bird’s Eye View returns for some it’s-too-early-to-tell caveating. The Jackson Holliday era has begun, but we are just as interested in the other, other kids.

Around the Bases
We go around the bases for the first time here in 2024, for a few topics that won’t get called for obstruction.
First Base: Jackson Holliday
The Orioles #1 prospect has just been promoted. Can’t we just recycle some material for this? We talk about what we expect from the young “second baseman,” and what we thought of his debut.
Second Base: The Other Kids
Now that we’ve talked about Jackson Holliday, we should talk about the other kids. No, not those kids. The other, other kids. Everyone talks about Adley and Gunnar. But we want to acknowledge the moment that Cowser and Westburg are having.
Third Base: NOT too early?
What is it not too early jump to conclusions about? We discuss what the sample size does and does not tell us.
Home Plate: Rosturbation
The Orioles are playing with the edges of their 40 man roster. They have paid cash for a pitcher and they have picked up a position player for the second time on waivers. There was a time when we would have to care about things like this. Now, it’s just an organizational curiosity.
Fantasy Boss
Jake takes an early lead, by correctly predicting that it would be Ramon Urias who collected a hit before Tony Kemp. To be fair, Kemp ended his Orioles tenure without collecting a hit, so… there’s that.
The score now stands at 1-0, Jake.
This week’s category is DONGS.
Scott took Anthony Santander
Jake went with Cedric Mullins

Episode 385: Glove is Blind
Leading Off
The first two series of the 2024 season are in the books, which means it is time for our annual tradition of over-analyzing and over-reacting. Isn’t it great to have baseball back?

Glove is Blind
Scott educates Jake on reality TV, and forces him to to make difficult decisions of the heart when it comes to some of the notable Orioles in the early part of the 2024 season.
The guys also break the rules and drop a mini-segment in wrapping up Opening Days. What can we say? The code is more what you’d call “guidelines” than actual rules.
Fantasy Boss
Scott is still riding high after his first Fantasy Boss victory in 2023. To get things started this season, he’s got a strong category:
Which player – Ramon Urias or Tony Kemp – will get a hit first?
Who will own it?
Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save
Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.

Oh Boy, What a Beer
We’re joined by Jeremy Knapp to talk about Natty Boh’s return to Camden Yards.
We talk Mr. Boh’s wink, the marriage of beloved Baltimore brands, and debates with Jake’s dead great grandmother.
Natty Boh returns to the ballpark for the first time since 2016. Here’s hoping the return brings a return of playoff wins to Camden Yards, as well.
Units of Measure
We wish that we could properly express how excited we are about the start of the 2024 season. In order to do it justice, we break things down in new and interesting units of measure.
It all comes down to the fact that it is a great time to be an Orioles fan.
Enjoy Opening Day. Enjoy the season!

Truth or Truth
Over the years, Bird’s Eye View has used the final episode before Opening Day to engage in prognostication. From shaking a Magic 8 Ball to opening envelopes sealed in a mayonnaise jar, we look for new and interesting ways to make our predictions.
This year, we went neither new nor interesting. Instead, it was time for a little Truth or Truth.
That’s right, we return to our favorite late night TV bit that no one else remembers. And as such, we get to the very truth of what the 2024 Orioles season might become.
Sweepstakes
The Orioles just ran their Opening Day Bird Bath Sweepstakes, in which fans were asked what they were most looking forward to on Opening Day. The prize was a pair of Opening Day tickets in the Bird Bath.
This led us to wonder… what might Orioles fans be looking forward to this season, and what might the prizes be?

Episode 382: The Best Worst Case Scenario
Leading Off
Orioles current events robbed us of two podcasts. First, ownership news dropped the day we were supposed to record. Then, we had written a show about how the 2024 offseason was groundhog day, and nothing was ever going to change. Then the O’s signed Corbin Burnes, and we had to tear up 40 minutes of shtick.
Well good thing nothing of note was announced today, right?

New Ownership
We missed recording when the announcement of new ownership was, well… new. However, Jake was desperate to discuss the fanbase’s seemingly blind allegiance to some new rich guy that bought the thing our family has loved for generations.
And Scott shut that negative talking down effectively with one reference to Disney’s Robin Hood. Oo-de-la-lee.
The Best, Worst Case Scenario
Fans of a certain age enjoyed a period of Orioles greatness that rivaled any other great sports dynasty. Fans of a different certain age “enjoyed” a period of Orioles ineptitude that led them to be a complete embarrassment. Those fans are used to dealing in terms of the worst case scenario.
We take a look back at 2023 to see what best case and worst case scenarios played out, then look a head to 2024 to predict whether it is more likely for the best or worst case scenarios to take place.

Best weekly Orioles coverage available
So glad to have found this podcast, they make it feel much less lonely to be an Orioles fan.
Awesome Podcast
I listen on the way to and from work. Great show with hosts that don't take themselves too seriously. Keep up the good work. Go O's!
Great Podcast
This is a great podcast if you like the Orioles, Elvis, Gwen Stefani, The Bryan Setzer Orchestra, and beer. If you don't like those things, then you're probably not even smart enough to have an iOS device!
