    Episode 23: Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo

    Episode 23: Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo

Tonight's episode brings us to the showdown we have all been waiting for: Zatoichi vs. Yojimbo. However, like many entries in this series, things are not what they seem (the twist is that it's not a very good movie) From IMDB: Zatoichi (Shintarô Katsu) becomes a drunken bodyguard's (Toshirô Mifune) adversary when he becomes caught up in a feud between a village boss and the man's son over stolen gold. Episode 22: Samaritan Zatoichi

    Episode 22: Samaritan Zatoichi

After a loooooong break we are back with movie 19, a soft reboot of sorts of the Blind Swordsman series explores a darker, less controlled Zatoichi as he finds himself once again in conflict. From IMDB: Zatoichi is tricked by a crime gang into killing a man. Realizing his mistake, he sets out to protect the dead man's sister, who is conflicted in accepting his help. Download Here

Episode 21: Zatoichi and the Fugatives

Episode 21: Zatoichi and the Fugatives

Tonight we are visiting the 20th film in the Zatoichi series, 1968's Zatoichi and the Fugatives. This one is a surprisingly dark entry in the series featuring a tremendous amount of gore and violence and almost no humor. Download Here

    Episode 20: Blind Fury

    Episode 20: Blind Fury

On tonights Blind Podsmen, we are checking out the questionable remake of Zatoichi Challanged, 1989's Blind Fury starring Rutger Huaer. This is....a doozie Download Here

    Episode 19: Zatoichi Challenged

    Episode 19: Zatoichi Challenged

We're back to our regularly programming (for now) with 1967's Zatoichi Challenged. Tonight our hero finds himself reluctantly shepherding a toddler to find his father, of course this leads to a ton of trouble. Featuring fantastic cinematography and one of the best fight scenes in the entire series Download Here

Episode 18: The Blind Menace (Ghoul Summer Special)

Episode 18: The Blind Menace (Ghoul Summer Special)

We are back and this episode is a real doozy. Tonight we stray away from our original path to dive into the slimiest, grossest time of the year: Ghoul Summer. We are watching 1960's The Blind Menace starring Shintaro Katsu, a film about a blind murderer and con artist that predates Zatoichi by 2 years. Download Here

Discussion without the work

It’s nice these guys are here to talk on such a niche, since getting another person to join in on a 25 film Zatoichi binge isn’t something one can just make happen. I wish it were easier but it just isn’t, and I appreciate the hell out of these fellas for doing it.

That said, I do wish they were pre-existing fans rather than diving in “blind” for each film. They seem to enjoy it well enough, but they obviously don’t quite love the films like you’d expect from an average nerdy niche podcast. Imagine listening to someone reviewing every episode of Star Trek The Original Series episode by episode on a first watch basis, and not quite picking up on all of the intricacies that fans love about their respective charms. It’s not like one can really complain though when it’s the only Ichi podcast game in town.

Gushy fanboys they are not, and a little over halfway through the series I get the sense they’re sorta over it a bit. But hey, it’s nice to have while I’m buzzing on the films again. Thanks guys!

Great series, fantastic podcast treatment

I'm a fan of the Zatoichi series, but the films are a little binge-watchable and easy to be glossed over. I love revisiting the series a film at a time with the Podsmen. They have a solid rapport and really dig into the material.
