Lively and revealing conversations about film

What sets Bonnie & Maude apart from other film podcasts is that they ask questions of each other and, by implication, the audience. In so many podcasts, the hosts “know” everything and the whole show is statement, not exploration. This show is a collaboration.

On Bonnie & Maude, the hosts ask genuine questions concerning the film, the actors & artists, the myths made by these figures, and the cultural meanings behind it all. Sometimes they answer individually, sometimes they work it out together, and sometimes they leave it up to the listener to answer for him or herself.

I often feel less like a spectator and more like a special guest, easily brought into the conversation and included as we all unpack these complex and interesting ideas about the experience of watching a film.

Love it.

I came across these girls on a Lena Dunham search. My experience with the podcast world is beyond minuscule, actually just this and NPR's Fresh Air podcast... I've listened to all the episodes multiple times. An interesting review of Lena Dunham's work and "ugly women in film" was a fantastic start, I love the Nora Ephron tribute, the two-part Marilyn Monroe discussion is terrific and I even enjoyed the Andy Sidaris discussion though I've never heard of him or his movies (but I want to look into them now). In fact, because of this podcast, I've invested in several films (Ephron and Monroe, to be specific). Keep the episodes coming.

Films both famous and obscure...

…through a feminist lens. They’re not afraid to be critical of a film or to adore it—or even to criticize films they themselves adore. They dig deep, even (perhaps especially) when it’s a film others might easily dismiss (like Carrie or the Craft). Highly recommend!
