The Diarist is a serialized audio fiction podcast. The Diarist immerses listeners into the 1950s world of Madison Avenue Advertising and leads them through the bizarre and often frightening inner worlds of the characters. After completing Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, Andrea Davies takes a position at a large New York Advertising firm, admittedly there to find a husband and secure a life as a well-to-do, country club socialite.Andrea becomes increasingly drawn into her boss Richard Hayes' bizarre personal life. She begins to assume the role of his wife and mother of his young daughter. However, a parallel reality continues back at his apartment where his psychotic wife moves in and out of insanity. AWESOME music, fantastic voice acting. Audio book lovers, mad men fans, and all lovers of story should check this out!
I just listened to Episode One and was swept away into another time and another world: 1950's Manhattan. I'm intrigued by the protagonist's struggle - get married, or reach a bit further? - and, to my chagrin, I even find my heart aflutter by Mr. Hayes. This podcast is my new guilty pleasure.
Old time radio in the best way
Wow! I hate aging myself, but here I go. When I was young, I used to get tapes from the library and listened to radio shows of yesteryear. Maybe it was smart as I married a sexy librarian, but I digress. This show is a delight. It is about a young woman finding her way in the world. The Foley effects and acting make this truly a radio play which I feel advances podcasts to the next iteration. Please check it out. You won’t regret it.
