Book Vs. Movie is the podcast that ponders the question: "Which was better...the book or the movie?" We spoil away the details, uncover the plot points, discuss casting choices and shower with praise (or pummel with snark) as we see fit. Hosts are Margo P. (She's Nacho Mama's Blog) and Margo D. (Creator of Brooklyn Fit and we are not afraid to tell it like it is!

Trying to like it

I must say, I’m struggling to fall in love with this one. They spend a LOT of time just recapping the plot of the book/movie, usually jumping around and interrupting each other. Out of order. (For example, in the discussion of Gone Girl, they talked about the characters and subplots and background, and it was about 20 minutes into the podcast before they said “So the book opens on their anniversary and Amy is missing….”) They do a lot of “I can’t remember the guy’s name but I really like him” or “the director….his name escapes me at the moment…” Which seems weird. It seems that they would have notes in front of them or computers opened up to the IMDB page or something! Research is easy these days! Doris Kearns Goodwin became “What’s her name? Doris, Delores Goodwin…Kearns?” The Margos are fairly likable, though they repeat themselves a lot, but after listening to four episodes, I can’t say “I really enjoyed that!” It almost feels like sitting in an airport overhearing two women discuss books and movies. I don’t hate it, but so far, I don’t love it, either.

Better than Peanut Butter and Chocolate

This podcast has combined my two favorite things; movies and books. Most podcasts that I’ve listened to that cover these subjects together are dryer than Bob Newhart’s wit. The Margos bring much excitement and insight to the movies and books they discuss and compare. Many of them I’ve already listened to/read and watched. There are quite a few that I will get to in the near future. I recently discovered this podcast and am sorry I didn’t get to it before the Halloween season. One of my favorite movies is Angel Heart. Falling Angel, by William Hjortsberg is the book that it’s based upon. Would love to hear their take on both.
A favorite book of mine, The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, also has a movie companion. This would be most interesting to kick around. If you love these types of discussions, this podcast is perfect for them. Can’t wait to hear what’s coming. Thanks Margos.

Re: interesting and fun podcast

The podcast Book vs Movie is such an inspiring show. Each episode is about a movie and a book the movie is based on. Every time I listen I either want to watch the film and read the book again. Most of the episodes are appropriate for the whole family and can inspire your kids to pick up a book. Our entire family read the Miss Perigrine’s series and this podcast really encouraged us to do this. Hope you enjoy the show!
