Description

The CAMPAIGN podcast is an actual play podcast where a small, consistent group of Chicago nerds get together to record role-playing games. It is hosted by Kat Kuhl. CAMPAIGN focuses on long-form or “campaign” gaming. By this, we mean that each week, Kat leads a team of improvisers (James D’Amato, John Patrick Coan, and Johnny O’Mara) through a continuous story that could take months or even years to complete. CAMPAIGN is currently set in the Star Wars universe, and uses the Edge of the Empire gaming system.

It’s nice

I really like it, and you can tell that they’re having fun

Very good, but comes off the rails a lot.

The cast(who are all improv actors I believe( are all fantastic, and the overall story is potentially intriguing. However, there are frequent tangents that wind up running half of the ~60 minute episode. They’re twelve episodes in, but story wise, I feel like we’ve maybe got maybe 2-3 hours of actual story content. Everything else is just random improv that is barely on theme. It’s great and important to have fun on a podcast, but at a certain point, story development needs to take precedence, and deliver an actual play podcast rather than an improv session.

Late to the party.

For my first 35 years of life, I did not utilize nor care about podcasts. I came upon One Shot via my brother running a game for James and crew a little less than a year ago. From that point I was hooked and in searching for more from One Shot, I came upon Campain. A huge Star Wars fan, I dove in with absolute relish and for months I was listening and living the story along with Kat, JPC, Johnny, James and their guests while at the same time flying through One Shot's seemingly random games. I caught up in time just as the Star Wars campaign was closing, I must say it was fairly good timing but heartbreaking as I truly enjoyed and loved every minute of the role playing between the main charachters of the show. The connection with the universe and with eachother was so rewarding to listen to. I'm a SWG veteran. This podcast brought me back to that world instantly. I fell in love with each of the characdters and I eagerly await their return from time to time in perhaps a One Shot? *wink wink nudge nudge*.

I truly could go on and on about the Star Wars Campaign. I also want to talk briefly about your new project however. While you're only through (aired) episode 11 now, I am stunned once more as to how much I am enjoying myself. While it is not set in the Star Wars universe any longer, Campaign still holds my attention. The characters that are being played are so fun. I miss Kat, but I'm happy that I have other mediums to listen to her. Tyler and Liz are very very welcome additions to your party. The story is fascinating along with the story-telling. The music is.....AMAZING. You know the kind of music that when you hear it you get this deep warm feeling that will invigorate your full body of senses. In short - I look forward to much more. As soon as I figure out how to patreon, I will be contributing to this project.

Thank you very much for the inspiration you give through (most of) your introductions in Campaign and the other One Shot productions.
