My name is John Gavin and I set up and host the Canning Season blog and podcast to help you get the most from the home canning and food preservation lifestyle. In this community I like to say it's all about celebrating and sharing the abundance. I canned my first item in the summer of 2006. It was bread-and-butter pickles. I still have the ladle that got stained orange by the turmeric! Since then, I've learned a lot and experimented a lot. I also ruined a lot of stuff through the mistakes I made. You'll get to hear all about that and so much more here. Welcome!

Very informative and fun!
I started canning this season, and was looking around the net for a good podcast to listen to during my commute. Not only is this very informative, but it is fun and I loved the interview segment. I look forward to continuing to listen. Thanks so much for this!
I stumbled across this podcast because I needed help with canning strawberries. Low and behold the second episode addressed my issues. This is going to be a great show and cannot wait for the next episode!
Looking forward to more!
Thank you John for starting this podcast, I am looking forward to hearing more interviews. I also got my start with canning pickles, and I have moved on to dilly beans, beets, cabbage and kohlrabi. I had a suggestion for what talk about during the cold winter months… you may get into some cooking/recipes to use with your preserved goods. I highly recommend the book Preservation Kitchen by Paul Virant/Kate Leahy. This book is incredibly informative beautiful. Maybe you can get an interview with Chef Paul (of the restaurant Perennial Virant here in Chicago).
