Leonard Maltin & a parrot

A podcast featuring the talented Leonard Maltin seems overdue in a marketplace crowded with people spouting opinions on movies. Mr Maltin’s views carry a weight to them earned through years of film study and wisdom. I was very excited to see this podcast appear on iTunes and set about listening immediately.

THE GOOD:
Leonard Maltin. His depth of knowledge is so deep and rich that it just pours out with ease. He is a natural voice whose love of talking film is evident and contagious. I’m left wanting more of him reminiscing about films and giving stellar recommendations. I want more Leonard Maltin on Maltin On Movies.

THE BAD:
Baron Vaughn. HIs ability seems limited to echoing everything Maltin says directly after he says it. And like an echo, you quickly realize there’s nothing behind it. His lack of knowledge of true film history is readily apparent, and only emphasized when trying to fake it next to a true intellectual. His attempts to be the funny partner only sidetrack conversations awkwardly. His attempts to impart knowledge are cringeworthy and hollow.

Ultimately, after 4 episodes, I decided I can’t listen to this podcast regularly unless I find a way to mute Baron Vaughn. I find myself getting irritated at his constant parroting of Maltin’s words, and it distracts from the true talent of the podcast. Unfortunate but true.

Unsubscribing and here's why

As much as I used to love this podcast, I can no longer listen because of his co-host. Jessie Maltin loves the sound of her own voice and she can't stop chiming in and talking between the guests' pauses and sentences.
Great guests and Leonard is an excellent historian but Jessie has made this show unlistenable for me.

5 stars with a caveat

A longtime listener to this podcast and it was outstanding! BUT…but, the recent addition of Leonard’s daughter is a BIG mistake. She is horrible and brings NOTHING to the table except interrupting the guests. I mean this with the upmost respect but Leonard Maltin you are the star, please drop the daughter and let her make her own way in this world. She is dragging you and this podcast down fast. 5 stars with Leonard by himself.
