Description

Citizen Radio is hosted by Allison Kilkenny and Jamie Kilstein and is dedicated to covering the stories that the mainstream, corporate media ignores. It's like Democracy Now but with much more swearing. They have interviewed such distinct intellectuals, bands, and comics such as Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Rachel Maddow, Melissa Harris-Perry, Tariq Ali, Howard Zinn, Matt Taibbi, Rise Against, System of a Down, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Jeremy Scahill, Robin Williams, Matt Besser, Janeane Garofalo, and more. “Jamie Kilstein and Allison Kilkenny have created an important political radio show that balances humor and unreported news. At a time when media conglomerates dominate the airwaves, independent media like Citizen Radio is vital to national discourse” - Noam Chomsky "Allison Kilkenny strikes fear into the hearts of corrupt politicians and corporations everywhere" -Village Voice “Jamie Kilstein is amazing and I will be spreading the word. He has the spark that energized my conscience. We need more comedians kicking it hard the way he does every night” – Robin Williams "Allison and Jamie are a modern day social justice, non-violent, vegan, punk, anti-war, feminist Bonnie and Clyde. Their weapons are simple: the pen, the airwaves, and a searing sense of humor. Their targets are the rich, the powerful, corporate media barons and basically any major league assholes." -Jeremy Scahill "Kilkenny is one of the top 30 media heroes in the country" -The Nation “Jamie reminds me of why I got into comedy. It’s like watching a combination of George Carlin and Bill Hicks ” - Janeane Garofalo "Allison Kilkenny is this generation’s Amy Goodman” -Melissa Harris-Perry. “Allison Kilkenny’s writing makes me want to vomit” - G. Gordon Liddy, Convicted Watergate criminal “Jamie Kilstein is a doofus.” –Glenn Beck

Amazing

They're saying everything I'm thinking. So hilarious, so awesome.

Bright minds with wacky humour

I love this podcast. Somehow serious topics are tackled with gleeful fun.

If Dick Cheney can use the F-word, so can we!

The problem with most liberal media figures is that they are either too timid to be effective, too ill-informed to be effective, or have no sense of humor. Luckily, we have Allison Kilkenny and Jamie Kilstien, the Brooklyn 20-somethings who bring us Citizen Radio three times a week. These guys are angry enough, smart enough and funny enough to make up for Keith Olbermann, Phil Donahue and the rest of the liberal crew.
Jamie combines the manic rant comedy of Dennis Leary with the irreverent, kamikaze activism of Lenny Bruce. Allison is a younger, tattooed, vegan Elizabeth Warren. Without the other, each would be hard to listen to for an hour, but together . . . Allison is the Diane Keaton to Jamie's Woody Allen. He is the Harpo to her Chico.
Her acerbic wit perfectly compliments his sophomoric insanity, but the really cool thing is that they're honestly nice people. They are married, they don't drink or do drugs, and promote healthy eating and personal responsibility. (If only we had more republican Senators like that!)
Citizen Radio is the anti-Sarah Palin. Liberals are usually tolerant and patient with her: once in a while, though, don't you feel like just choking her? CR is for progressives who are tired of playing nice. If Dick Cheney can drop the F-bomb, why can't we?
Many liberals will be turned off by the swearing. There is also no traditional, liberal new-age-y, I'm OK-you're OK, Kum-bah-ya singing sensibility. If that's you, stick with NPR.
If, however, you are a committed progressive, disappointed with Obama, but with your eyes on the prize, subscribe and enjoy!
