Description

The Crossing The Break Podcast discusses the nuts and bolts of teaching clarinet at the beginning and intermediate levels. We will cover aspects of playing clarinet including tone, embouchure, hand position, tonguing, technique, range, fingerings, tuning and other clarinet-specific items. These ideas can be applied to beginning clarinet class, beginning band, intermediate or advanced clarinetists, and in an individual or group setting. The host of this podcast is Tamarie Sayger. A 1999 music education graduate of WTAMU, Mrs. Sayger held band director positions in Plano and Odessa, TX for 5 years. As a private clarinet instructor in Texas for 16 years, she has taught hundreds of students from grade 6-12 in classes, sectionals, and individual lessons. She has presented at district in-services and co-presented at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention. Her website, CrossingTheBreak.com, provides resources for clarinet teachers around the country. Tamarie Sayger is also a core contributor for BandDirectorsTalkShop.com, primarily on the subjects of clarinet and private lessons. Her podcast, Crossing The Break, can be found on iTunes. Dam of clarinet pedagogy released!

This podcast is like a dam of knowledge released for us music teachers. I am soaking up the river of clarinet pedagogy. It has a stellar website that accompanies each show with note and pictures.

As a brass player, I've been suffering in the woodwind department for years. Now I finally can feel like the expert that I portray in the band room.

May others copy her fantastic work.

Everything you ever wanted to know about teaching clarinet

This podcast is an incredible resource for any band director or private clarinet instructor. While it is geared towards band directors teaching beginning clarinetists, there is so much value in it for all of us.

For the band director, it's like having a master clinician work with you and your students every day. There is so much material to go over in a woodwind method class in college that things get overlooked. This completely fills any gap in our understanding of how to play clarinet ourselves and teach it to our students.

There is so much detail in the podcasts and and show notes. Rarely do you find a resource like this packed so full of valuable information. Start teaching clarinet with these tips, tricks and methods and you will help to create an all-star clarinet section.

Great information for band directors

This has to be one of the most informative podcasts I have ever come across. Teaching clarinets is no easy task and I am a wind player. I have a full band class from flutes to percussion and because of this podcast I am teaching my class totally differently. Everything in this podcast is great and useable. Thank you for Tamarie for Crossing the Break!
