a podcast about fictional father figures

The latest thoughts of Merritt K and Co

Pretty much any time you encounter Merritt Kopas, you encounter challenging thought and acid wit. This podcast is an extended meditation on patriarchy, through a look at fictional dads in comics, videogames and movies. Merritt and the occaisional guest pose unexpected quextions and track varieties of "dadness" from their fictional avatars back to their roots in western culture. I'm making it sound like it's a theory-packed slog, but in truth it's light and tart.

merritt is a great host for this show that investigates dads in media. If you enjoy this, you should check out Woodland Secrets, another podcast that merritt hosts!

gotta hear about those dads

even as a person who's never really had a ton of (conscious) dadfeelings, this has been really fun and interesting to make my way through - reflecting on what sort of dad fantasies or anxieties certain fictional dads represent is always neat and merritt even manages to make the episodes without guests engaging which is no small feat! episodes generally don't overstay their welcome, either; the podcast is good at knowing when to let go and end things.
