An Excellent German Course

An Excellent German Course This course is for the serious German language student as opposed to someone just looking to learn a few words before the next vacation. The course employs modern language training techniques and is better than most packages that cost hundreds of dollars. This was a great discovery on iTunes. So far I’ve completed 30 lessons, and I’m quite please with the instruction. Pros: *Includes 4 parts of 26 audio lessons each (each lesson ~10-15 minutes) *Includes text transcript, exercises, vocabulary, and translations *Includes German culture and idioms *Uses multiple male and female native speakers *Uses memorable characters and narrative *It’s free Cons: *It’s somewhat old (refers to “Marks” as currency) *No pictures or video

Ganz toll!

This is a really good series! I've been listening to series 1, 2 and 3 for an month or so and I'm really confident in my German now. It helps to have some prior knowledge of German- I took it for one semester 3 years ago, so I know how to spell/pronounce and I remember a few grammar things, so I don't know how a 'virgin' to Deutsch would fare. Very good though, I highly recommend!

A Very Professional Language Course

This course is the most professional of all of the German courses I have found. It was done by a radio station in Germany using professional voice actors and it shows. The narrator has a great voice in both English (British) and German - sounding native in both. One downside is that they just dive right into German which might be too "immersive" for a beginner. Like they suggest in the course, it is best to just listen to what the language sounds like and try to get the jist of what they are saying. The lessons were recorded near the time of reunification so that plays a big role in the series. That, along with the use of the Mark in the examples makes it seem a bit dated. It is not clear when you listen to this series (Series 1), but there are four series total (search for Deutsch - warum nicht?). Also, in addition to read along materials for this podcast, there is an excellent, free online German course available at the Deustche Welle website.
