So Helpful!

Thank you Dr. Ruscio for shedding light on these confusing and important issues. So many people these days struggle with digestive health and metabolic dysfunction. Thanks for helping us understand the connection between the two and insights on how to fix our selves up :)
Much appreciated!

Hyperthyroidism & Grave's Disease

I've only listened to this one podcast so far and i'm hooked! I've been battling Hyperthyroidism for over a year now. My endocronologist gave me the options of radioactive iodine or surgery - I don't want either! So I've been doing a ton of research for alternative treatments and was recently introduced to the study of functional medicine. I will be a dedicated follower of Dr. Ruscio's podcasts! It's so exciting to finally hear someone address Hyper and not just Hypothyroidism!

Balanced Approach to Functional Medicine and Ancestral Health

The first time I came across Dr. Michael Ruscio was when he submitted a proposal to speak at the Ancestral Health Symposium that I help run. His submission stood out as being very strong and informative, so we easily accepted it for the 2014 AHS in Berkeley, CA. I'm glad we did. Dr. Ruscio gave one of the best presentations of the conference, both in terms of interesting information and in knowledge that went into the research!

It was with this introduction that led to my great excitment when I learned that he was starting his own podcast. Actually, I learned about it because he called me to interview me for one of his episodes (this was months before the launch of the podcast). The interview was one of the best I've participated in, due in large part to Dr. Ruscio's low-key, but very thoughtful and analytic style. The interview was very conversational, with no agenda other than to discuss some of the stuff that was on my mind about Ancestral Health, including the topic of my own presentation at AHS14.

I've listened to the first 6 or 7 episodes by now, and I must say I'm a big fan! Dr. Ruscio prepares very thoroughly for each episode. He is very methodical and systematic in setting up the topic of each episode, and covers the material in a casual and careful, yet engaging manner. What I think I find most refreshing about his approach is the careful balance beteen the value of the Ancestral Health framework, yet the caution in sticking to what we do know quite well and separating it from many of the more speculative parts of our knowledge. For example, while he is clearly excited and supportive of the huge intereste in the Ancestral Health community regarding the microbiome, he is very skeptical that our current state of knowledge allows us to make any specific recommendations regarding probiotic and even prebiotic supplementation. He makes similar arguments about other areas of supplementation, such as vitamin D and iodine. Listening to his well reasoned and gaurdedly optimistic evalutaions of each of these topics has caused me to reassess my own supplementation regimins.

In the increasingly populated landscape of excellent podcasts on health, Dr. Ruscio's is quickly becoming, in my opinion, one of the top in terms of quality of research and effectiveness in communicating complex ideas to a broad audience. I would rank his podcast as of similar quality and value as those of Chris Kresser and Robb Wolf. He merges the best of functional medicine and ancestral health, and provides simple take-home points that simplify the process of navigating the field of Ancestral Health and putting simple ideas into daily practice for the listener to improve his/her own health.
