To listen to an audio podcast, mouse over the title and click Play. Open iTunes to download and subscribe to podcasts.

Join author John King for eclectic interviews with writers from a variety of genres, including fiction writing, poetry, memoirs, and journalism. From literature to genre writing to the movies, all writing is up for discussion. In particular, The Drunken Odyssey features discussion of all aspects of the writing process—not just the published manuscript, pristinely presented to the entire literate world, but also the scrawled notes and tortured drafts that lead writers there. In long-form interviews, writers discuss their process and the way that writing has influenced their lives. Besides this interview, each episode also features a short memoir essay from a writer about a beloved book, plus John King responds to listener’s questions and observations about the writing (and the drinking) life. Customer Reviews

Love this podcast!

The Drunken Odyssey is a podcast that offers really insightful writing tips. The interviews with established writers are great, and the essays by writers about their favorite books add a nice variety to the show. The production values are superior for a podcast. TDO is well worth the download.

shaken, not stirred …. and extremely lucid

Despite the impression from its title that this podcast might debauch the art of writing, it's anything but that. Mr. King has a striking command of the facets of writing and a vast array of colleagues to draw upon. It's a sinful pleasure to listen to his thoughts, and he presents a cast of practical all-stars who share insightful book reviews. I've added a few to my reading list based on this podcast. To top it all off, the podcast's production values are top-shelf. All in all, it's the real deal.

LIke NPR... For Writers.... Without the Earnestness...

This is a fun and quirky listen. Thoughts on the writing life, personal essays, and long discursive interviews conducted by the genial host. If you're a writer, play it at the end of a rough writing day (with a drink, of course). It's a good way to feel less terribly.... existentially.... alone....
