Informative, Sometimes Funny, Technical, and A Bit of Wisdom

It's not easy being a first generation target archery parent. Your kid may shoot on a "team", but it isn't like a soccer team. Different bows, different events, different age groups, and many times an absence of maturity in the developmental pipeline are things you will be greeted with in organized US archery. As a parent, you will be hungry for information and there are not a lot of places to go. The popular discussion boards are for the super enthusiasts with hardened skin. The manufacturer sites are geared for procurement and dumping technical information. Your local bow show is more than likely geared for the bow hunter. You can chit chat with other parents, but unless your kid is shooting with parents in tune with the sport, you'll mostly discuss what you already know.

This podcast is one interesting way to crack the code of archery. The podcast won't deliver the information in rudimentary ways, but repeated exposure gets a newbie used to many pieces of the sport. How do you progress in the sport? What is a USAT event? What's the value of a coach? How much should you think/spend on euipment? What is wrong with my set up?

George and Steve may never reach the popularity of a show like NPR's Car Talk, but I think their show does similar things. I'm not even close to a car person, but repeated exposure to Car Talk breaks down some of the barriers to being a car owner. This archery podcast does a decent job of making sure the context for Q&A is set, bringing along less experienced listeners so they can at least appreciate most of the discussion.

I know it can be tempting to over fit and cater to your best audience. I hope George and Steve recognize that they really are high ranking ambassadors for this sport and continue to make sure the content fits all kinds or archers and even some archery parents so that more people can find a home within archery.
