Description

The Enthusiasticast is a weekly webshow (mp3 audio) by two guys mostly about books. Each week we talk about a book we think you should be reading. It doesn’t matter if it’s literary fiction, a genre novel, or non-fiction—it just has to kick a**. We also weigh in on related culture news, plus some movie and comics talk. Episodes are posted every Monday morning and run about 30 minutes. We do spoilers sometimes, but we warn you first. And we swear quite a bit.

If you

I've listened to 4 episodes of Enthusiasticast so far, and I can say without hesitation that I'm a fan. Mark and Jon have a great rapport and some great conversations! I confess that I don't know much about movies or film celebrities, but even without that context I enjoy hearing them discuss film. The real heart of the show, though, is in their book recommendations, which go far beyond the usual "I like this." They are both great at expressing why they like something and why you should give it a try. I've added several books to my to-be-read list just in the few episodes that I've heard. Keep up the great work, guys -- I look forward to listening every week.

Books - and more

I listen to several book podcasts and I can honestly say this is one of the best. As a former teacher, I always tried to have my students understand the connections between the various subjects they were studying. Jon and Mark have a prodigious knowledge of pop culture and no book is ever discussed without tying it in to other books, podcasts, movies, TV programs, etc. This makes this podcast more intellectually stimulating than others. I also appreciate their freewheeling approach and lack of self-censorship. When discussing books (or anything else) with friends, I don't generally self-censor either. That's probably due to the enthusiasm for the subject being discussed. The podcast is well-named, the enthusiasm is contagious, the personalities are vibrant. Keep up the good work, Jon and Mark!

Face-Melting Goodness

This podcast (at about 12 episodes in) is sublime. Rarely does one of these two recommend a book in such a manner as to motivate me to add it to my must-read list. They position their endorsements so you know what you're getting and their engaging discussion leads you to think such crazy thoughts as, "Dude, I'd TOTALLY love to read a 700 page novel about the Vietnam war that is replete with anecdotes of America's racial tensions and bureaucratic b.s. Bring. It. On," or, "Yeah, I really really want to read a book about behavioral economics that'll lead me to wonder what I can spray into the atmosphere. Jesus H. Christ, why haven't I read this sooner?"
