Making the J-cards of my youth come alive

Billy Power is a congenial host whose smile you can hear right through your ear buds. I’ve never met him, and yet it is hard not to feel as though you know him. The shared musical history takes me back most every episode to some pretty familiar times and places in the past-- from Cornerstone ’91 to ’95, to a host of shows and bands that blew through the southeast, and my home town of Atlanta. It is crazy how many stories I am familiar with just by running into some of the same people way back then. I’ll just say that with all the arcane bits of history floating about in my head, I would definitely be competitive in "Punk and Hardcore Bands that have Professing Christians in them Trivia Night" at the pub. Hell, I’d do pretty well on early 80’s CCM night too.

Now admittedly, a lot of the guests tend to skew to a later era, an epoch that I was only faintly aware of. But it still resonates. And though I may have landed in a different place than many on the show, I have still see myself in these people and recognize the journey intimately.
Being of a certain age, I had been having my own frequent excursions with the ghost of Christmas past— visiting my musical, theological, and cultural past. This podcast is a welcome addition to my own writing and meditation on some fairly important and formative years. Billy Power is making a certain small and quirky section of J-cards in my musical card catalog come back to life.

Speaking of J-cards, the only criticism I have, being a liner notes kind of guy, is that there could be a little more in the way of show notes or photos— whether its a screen shot of the guest, old flyers, or album art. Also, don’t be averse to doing a show with just yourself regaling us with show, band, label, and festival stories of your own. I’m sure there are plenty more.

Great job!

Billy Power is the best!

Billy is a naturally great podcast host. If you're a Tooth and Nail fan, or a fan of punk music in general, he brings a refreshing approach to his interviews, discovering where his guests grew up, got started in music, all the way through where they are today. Billy is great at asking questions and keeping his guests on topic. This is my new favorite podcast. Definitely worth subscribing to and supporting.

Great!

Very enjoyable podcast that gives the back story of how a lot of the “Christian bands” I listened to back in the 90’s. But this show isn’t total nostalgia either—Billy meets his guests where they are currently and talks about life since their bands finished, new projects and gets real, and deep with them at times.
