compelling for a cross-country road trip
I just 'jumped' back across the country to set up my own consulting business, and I listened to every episode of this podcast on the drive, starting with most recent and working back. It was obviously compelling enough to listen to for hours and hours and hours. A few comments, though.
1. I really hope Mike's voice gets better soon!
2. The best jump stories were mostly the ones that are rated highest here- Gretchen Rubin and Cathy Heller, particularly (not Sheryl Sandberg, I think hers is top-rated because she's a big name)
3. I got really tired of hearing Mike's story about how he played squash by the end- I wish the events where he talked about himself AGAIN weren't put on the podcast- they're great for new followers, but enough about squash and Mike already!
4. Mike is definitely more into agreeing with his subjects than pressing them or asking them tough questions- he's not a journalist. His favorite interview word may be "Wow."
5. My biggest gripe is actually with the sound quality. It's often pretty uneven and bad- nowhere near the quality of a lot of the other podcasts I listen to. I understand he does a lot of recording over the phone, but there must be a way to fix this??
6. He makes it sound like there's some sort of jump club community on his website, and I went there expecting forums and discussion, but it's just a slick website and you can sign up for his mailing list. It didn't seem like real community.
7. I wouldn't mind if episodes came out every other week if they were better-produced and better-interviewed.
8. It would be nice to mix the jump stories more with practical advice, like the 'should I go back to school?' episode. Like, a "HOW to jump" episode.
Inspiring and Thought Provoking
Awesome podcast - just listened to the premiere episode with Sheryl Sandberg. Very open conversation about her transition from government to tech and the thought process that she went through. Challenges you to think about if/when it is time to let go of the hold to start something new
If you’re considering making a jump I encourage you to listen to the pod for some inspiration and confidence.
“Long term dream and short term plan. Enjoy the process.”
A great resource
The funny thing about making a jump is once you do it everyone asks you “how did you do it?” I’m so grateful for this podcast because now I have a resource to refer others to after I tell them my own story.
I love how mindset issues & logistics are both covered in the interviews. Mike is an engaging interviewer who gets to the questions his audience is most interested in. Thank you for all your hard work!
