December 31, 1999: The world braced for disaster as midnight approached. Then, nothing happened. The hysteria over the Y2K computer bug quickly became an afterthought; a punch-line. In Surviving Y2K, Dan Taberski takes you back to the turn of the millennium to meet the people for whom it was anything but a joke — computer coders, conspiracy theorists, survivalists, and true believers — as they each face their own version of the apocalypse. And Dan tells a new millennium story of his own, about a decision that could destroy his life. Headlong is Dan Taberski’s documentary podcast that explores the lives of overlooked people, moments and events in our culture. Season 1 was Missing Richard Simmons. Season 2 is Surviving Y2K.

So fawkin good
Never thought I'd be hooked on a podcast about treasure hunting an 80s fitness icon, but here we are, and you should join us
This podcast is frustrating and sad. I really wanted to like it- it could've easily been a fantastic character portrait of Richard Simmons' fame, personality, and even personal struggles and history without the entitled, hounding narrative. This podcast holds the overarching theme that Richard Simmons owes people his emotional labor. He doesn't owe you anything. Maybe if people were expecting him to continue to be his personal therapist they should've paid for him to be his personal their personal therapist instead of expecting him to be an emotional dumping ground for free. It shouldn't be up to some podcast producer to weasel him out of hiding because he'll thinks he'll be the hero if he finds him.
Isn't this a betrayal of his friendship
I just started listening to this and am immediately struck by a sense of betrayal by you of your friendship with Richard. He took you into his life and now you exploit it. I am an unlikely fan of Richard and grew up watching him explode in pop culture. If the man needs a break, why not honor it respectfully? I will cautiously continue to listen to this and yes you will get ratings but let's see if you gain or lose respect.
