||John 1:29-42 / 19 January 2014 (Epiphany 2)||Look at John. Look to where he is pointing. Follow his gaze and his finger to that solitary figure coming toward him. Hear his voice, that prophetic Voice calling in the wilderness. “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away … Continue reading →||1/19/2014||Free||View in iTunes|
||Matthew 3:13-17 / 12 January 2014 (Baptism of Jesus)||Jesus was baptized. Had John been running the show it might never have happened. When Jesus came to John to be baptized, John tried to stop Him. “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” … Continue reading →||1/12/2014||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 2:41-51 / 5 January 2014 (Christmas 2)||Wisdom. We usually associate “wisdom” with people who are older. The young are quick with the facts but tend to be a bit short on experience, knowledge, and general common sense. Wisdom comes with experience, gray hair, the school of … Continue reading →||1/5/2014||Free||View in iTunes|
||Matthew 2:13-23 / 29 December 2013 (Christmas 1)||The fullness of time had come. Chronos was bursting at the seams with the Promise of God. Nothing that happens concerning Jesus – His conception by a Virgin, His birth in Bethlehem, His flight to Egypt, the baby boys who … Continue reading →||12/29/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 20:27-40 / 10 November 2013||Hypothetical questions. The “what if” question. Every teacher knows about these. The impossible scenario. The argument taken to the absurd. The question is a trap. It doesn’t come out of curiosity or a desire to be taught, but it’s designed … Continue reading →||11/10/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Romans 3:17-28 / 27 October 2013 (Reformation)||Reformation Sunday. Five days before Reformation Day proper, but Concordia Publishing House put it on the bulletin insert, so why not? Besides, you probably wouldn’t have shown up for a Thursday night service anyway, being busy with that great holiday … Continue reading →||10/27/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 18:1-8 / 20 October 2013||“Jesus told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” The “they” are Jesus’ disciples to whom He has just spoken about the dark days of the end. And now He speaks … Continue reading →||10/20/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 17:11-18 / 13 October 2013||We’ve been doing a lot of faith talk the past few weeks. Faith that forgives. Faith that moves mulberry trees. Faith that serves without boasting or bookkeeping. Today we hear about the faith of Ruth, a young widow from Moab, … Continue reading →||10/13/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 17:1-10 / 6 October 2013||Scandals, stumbling stones, tripping points inevitably come. They can’t not come. But woe to those through whom they come. Jesus is not talking about “temptations to sin,” as the translation you heard has it, but stumbling points to faith. Things … Continue reading →||10/6/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 16:1-15 / 22 September 2013||Today’s reading from the Gospel according to St. Luke deals with the topic of Money. Property and Possessions. The stuff that keeps many of us awake at night and busy during the day. “I owe, I owe, so off to … Continue reading →||9/22/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Luke 15:1-10 / 15 September 2013||This morning’s Gospel text is Luke chapter 15, and that means you get to hear my triennial rant over the lectionary and the beady little minds who produce them. The reading should have been the entire chapter not two-thirds of … Continue reading →||9/15/2013||Free||View in iTunes|
||Holy Chutzpah||Luke 11:1-3 / 10 Pentecost (Proper) / 28 July 2013 / Holy Trinity – Hacienda Heights, CA “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” But, isn’t prayer something “natural”? It isn’t. We don’t know how to pray. … Continue reading →||7/28/2013||Free||View in iTunes|

because of sound preaching like this, im seriously considering joining a lutheran church. expository preaching is hard to come by but Pastor Cwirla does an upstanding job
Pastor Swirla has a wonderful style and a wonderful message. His flock is truely blessed and it is wonderful that these sermons are available on the web. Thank you for sharing them. Peter Kolb
Pastor Cwirla has a very engaging style, mainly because he's a good story teller. And he presents the key point in a simple straightforward manner.
And while I am thankful for that (and my kids are too, whom I make listen to the sermons) I am most thankful for the clear Law and Gospel distinction, and especially the clear enunciation of Jesus' death and resurrection for us, how it comes to us in word and sacrament, and how the cross means everything for us day to day. So comforting and so strengthening all at once. Thanks for bringing CHRIST to us each and every time.
