Host and Guest - Steve Young

Host and Guest - Steve Young

On this edition of Host and Guest, Rick is joined by comedy writer and industrial musical expert Steve Young. If you've never heard of industrial musicals, they are musicals that were created for corporate meetings/sales conferences and then records of the shows were given to attendees intended as a souvenir and never meant to be heard by the general public. For over three decades, Steve has collected and uncovered industrial musical records. The documentary Bathtubs Over Broadway revolves around Steve's interest in industrial musicals and celebrates the performers and creators of the musicals. Steve also co-wrote the book Everything's Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals. In this episode, Steve shares how working as a writer for David Letterman led to his discovery of industrial musicals, what he loves about industrial musicals and what attendees can expect as Steve begins to tour his love show The Weird and Wonderful World of Industrial Musicals. Steve will be in Milwaukee at the Cooperage on Thursday, August 31st and tickets for his show are now available at https://cooperagemke.com/event/the-weird-wonderful-world-of-industrial-musicals. Good Honest Listening

I enjoy Rick's style very much. He doesn't pretend to be an "official interviewer." It is much more about communicating on the same level - good listening is harder to come by than good questioning, and Rick does both well. I feel like I am hanging out with them. I find it is harder for me to listen to the radio in my car now that I have found this material.

If you like this, give The Internet's Maximum Potential a listen, Rick's long-form program.

THIS IS POD-RIFFIC

Love the format. Sweet and to the point. Little intros with Rick's life add a lot of color. The questions Rick asks always make the interviews interesting. I love listening every week!

Need more descriptive titles

You guys have to rename your episodes. More and more people are downloading directly from their iPhones/iPods and you have to give people a clue as to who is on each episode. If you download the latest and don't like it then you'll probably give up on the show. If you can see who the guests are and see someone you like on a paticular show then you're more likely to listen and give the show a chance.
