Episode 166 - The MCHD EKG Manifesto - Part 1

Applied EKG interpretation is often a difficult task in EMS and emergency medicine education. Getting bogged down in minutiae can obscure the patient. While an understanding of EKG foundational physiology is an absolute must, consideration of how to combine the 12-lead and patient presentation is vital as well. Join the podcast crew as they start at the end with the killer/"can't miss" EKG patterns and combine those with common chief complaints. Hopefully, this framework will click for you.

    Episode 165 - Intracerebral Hemorrhage

    Episode 165 - Intracerebral Hemorrhage

We've spent countless hours (rightfully so) discussing ischemic stroke management over the past several years. Sometimes, the other 20% of strokes, the hemorrhagic version, can get neglected. No, we don't have stroke-mobiles at MCHD to diagnose an ICH in the field, but there are some patient care keys to emphasize for EMS when we suspect non-traumatic, acute intracranial bleeding.

Episode 164 - EMS HOCUS POCUS

Episode 164 - EMS HOCUS POCUS

MCHD's POCUS program has definitely involved both forward progress and lessons learned. In this episode, we'll discuss some of the reasons POCUS can be a game changer in the prehospital setting. However, unintended consequences do exist. We've begun to make the move to utilizing carotid ultrasound in OHCA, and we'll tell you exactly why.

    Episode 162 - Post-ROSC Pressor Choice

    Episode 162 - Post-ROSC Pressor Choice

We recently made a significant vasopressor protocol change at MCHD, prioritizing norepinephrine in all shock situations except anaphylaxis and bradycardia. The evidence supporting norepinephrine in septic and even cariogenic shock is relatively solid. However, recent data has emerged suggesting norepinephrine may be safer in post-ROSC shock as well.

Great Medic Podcast

Great Podcast! Listening from CT and this podcast makes me feel more comfortable approaching medical direction staff to discuss potential changes, being in an area that is not nearly as progressive as MCHD. Thank you!

Awesome podcast

Listening from Chicago. Love this show and the team. Tracks well for the medic scope and level but does not water down concepts. I count this among the handful of shows that is really committed to pushing the educational edges forward for medics.

Phenomenal

If you’re an EMS provider and ever wondered what it’d be like to get one on one lessons from your medical director then this is the podcast for you. I’m a Maryland paramedic and love listening to both Dr. Dixon and Dr. Casey Patrick discuss cases and share their points of view as physicians with cases that every EMS provider experiences at some point in their career to an extent. I’ve actually taken some tips and tricks from them and implemented it into my own practice and used lessons learned from the podcast to create training plans for my agency. The MMQB and serial killer series are probably my two favorite shows to listen to, the MMQB especially because you don’t hear physicians admit to being wrong often. Keep it up MCHD, love y’all and be safe!
