    Teaching Shakespeare

    Teaching Shakespeare

Teaching Shakespeare: Why do so many students hate Shakespeare? Probably because the way his plays are taught. Let's get out of our desks and onto a stage! Tim talks to two guests about why performing is the key to understanding and loving Shakespeare.

    Measure for Measure: Act V

    Measure for Measure: Act V

I like to call this act "duke ex machina." The Duke returns, ready to solve everyone's problems. Plus, a special guest asks the question, "Did Shakespeare care about his characters?" Plus, after the podcast, Gaelyn and Tim keep talking at home and Gaelyn forms a theory.

    Measure for Measure: Act IV

    Measure for Measure: Act IV

It's complicated, okay. In Act 4, the Duke (disguised as the Friar) is a puppet master, pulling strings, saving prisoners, ending lives. He also forms a secret plot with Angelo's jilted fiancé. See, it's complicated.

The plays the thing

As a teenager who’s always struggled with not reading but understanding Shakespeare this podcast has been so helpful. I love how I leave every episode with questions and ideas.

What a find!

It’s not easy for Christians (or just normal people with a traditional moral worldview) to find podcasts about the great works of the West that aren’t unbearable. If you want to think honestly about good books instead of listening to ideologues use the hermeneutic of skepticism to shoehorn anachronisms into great literature, then this is the place for you.

Best way to supplement Shakespeare

As a former English teacher, I wish I’d known about this podcast before!! Still, I LOVE listening to this podcast - just for fun! The camaraderie, banter, insight, and deep questions of all members of the team are delightful. They each bring a different angle of expertise, from performance to teaching the play to soul-searching and reading well. If you enjoy Shakespeare, this podcast is a no-brainer. :) But even if the Bard isn’t your thing, if you like history, literature, and/or theatre, I think you’ll still enjoy listening in.
