The InsideTheBoards podcast is dedicated to helping you learn to think like a question writer so you can study smarter, not harder. Our goal is to take you "Inside" the boards. With our special series like the Step 1 Study Smarter Series, we aim to dedicate a "season" toward helping you study based on the rhythm of medical education. Throughout the year, look for special "Study Smarter" series. In the Spring it's USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1. Early Summer it's Step 2. In the late fall, we'll help you Match Smarter in your chosen specialty. But we also will pepper in shows dedicated to particular shelf exams, Step 3, and other topics relevant to those involved in medical education. New episodes every one to two weeks featuring interviews with leaders in the exam preparation space from companies like Picmonic, Memorang, USMLE-Rx, Osmosis, Firecracker, MedSchoolCoach, Sketchymedical and more. Our guests are people like Kevin Pho, Conrad Fischer, Pamela Wible, and Edward Goljan (okay, maybe we haven't had Goljan on yet, but hey, we'd like to). We give pride of place to multiple choice question "dissections" so you can succeed on the USMLE, COMLEX, shelf exams, and in med school. Most episodes feature a contest where you can win access to a high yield and relevant study resource by listening and leaving a review of the show on iTunes or applicable podcast service and sending a screenshot to Our show is especially for medical students, residents, and doctors, but nursing students, physician assistant students, and others in the health professions will also find it helpful. Really, we’re for anyone who wants to learn to how to get the most from their study by focusing not just on the content (the "what") of an exam but also the process (the "how") of taking it. Whether it's an NBME or NBOME shelf exam, USMLE, COMLEX, NCLEX, PANCE, or any other test you'll face in medicine, we want to help you succeed. Step 1 is no match for an ITB listener :) Share us with your friends and on social media. And check out our website for more info and let us help you get inside the boards!

great new podcast

I recently checked out the ITB podcast and wish I'd had a resource like this in medical school. I have always been a good, but not great, standardized test taker and while I did well in medical school, I was vastly outperformed by some students on shelf and step exams without really understanding why, since I always felt like I had a good grasp on the content. I think that an approach like what ITB teaches would have made all the difference.

This podcast gets the learner into the frame of mind of the test question writer, focusing on practical test-taking strategy rather than emphasizing the memorization of endless content devoid of proper context (what I mostly did as a student). In the years I've spent in medical school and then preparing for residency inservice exams and ultimately the pediatric board exam, I have stumbled by trial and error on a few of the strategies Dr. Beeman teaches. A resource like this encapsulates this trial and error experience and puts it in a nice, accessible format from the get-go. Even though my student days are long behind me, I think that the concepts that ITB relates here will prove very useful in preparing for my pediatrics board recertification exam.

Great insight

Love thinking about studying for tests from this perspective. Once you learn the test material you need to know how to figure out what the test is asking you.

Excellent Advice

I wish I had the advice that Dr. Beeman offers prior to my graduating from med school. He offers a unique way of studying that would have helped me tremendously and saved me hours of wasteful studying. It was interesting to hear his personal experiences and when he changed his ways of studying his test scores increased. If I had studied the way Dr. Beeman did, I believe I would have greatly increased my tests, boards and shelf scores. I plan on encouraging med students to take advantage of these podcasts to help them not only pass their exams, but to excel and become outstanding doctors.
