"The past is another country; they do things differently there." Inward Empire explores the role of ideas and ideology in American history -- how the surface of actions and events can be shaped by undercurrents of thought and belief. Accessible and thoroughly researched, each episode is a window into a world that is both profoundly foreign and strikingly similar to our own. scholar in retirement

A fast-paced, in-depth account, delivered with confidence and verve. Particularly good at bringing key characters to life, showing forces at work behind the scenes, and viewing with fateful lucidity the collision of American Indian and Puritan cultures. Interesting analogies develop––by implication––between this failure of two quite different populations to go their separate ways on a shared stretch of land and similar failures these days all across the world.

Excellent new history podcast

Inward Empire is very well researched and presented. The podcast is loaded with the kind of primary sources that students of history love. The author also strives to present history in an objective manner and without any kind of ideology. He covers the struggles of the Indigenous Peoples of North America and the Puritans from all available angles (political, economic, religious, social, diplomatic etc.) giving the listener as much relevant information as possible. The podcast is organized in way that make it easy to follow and listen to. I absolutely love this podcast and will be recommending it.
