When the basement of my house flooded, I lost many records and much memorabilia from all my bands. The objects I salvaged I put in a big box. I stared at them for awhile then decided to send them out into the world to a better place, where they wouldn't be ruined. This is when I began my transition into storing memories, instead of objects. Jughead's Basement Radio Show explores a different influential record each month. Writers, Performers, and Musicians join me each program to talk about their own relationship to specific songs on the record. Even though the program can be downloaded, my intention is to cultivate a live audience, so that this audience has the opportunity to call in and react in the moment, sharing their stories and their opinions, and to directly ask me questions.

Customer Reviews

A podcast that's worth your time.

Jughead's Basement is a wonderfully arranged look at albums of great significance to John and many of us alike in the genres of but not limited to, pop punk/punk rock/rock n' roll. Each episode is a collection of fantastic interviews with band members, studio personnel, label owners, and other closely related characters of importance to the record being honored. Interviewees range from the highly celebrated to rare. These interviews are always meticulous yet highly entertaining, touching on the subject at hand but due to John's experience, paired with a relaxed and welcoming demeanor can lead to many other cool side stories. This creates a very much "fly on the wall view", giving a look at something you might love dearly and feel you know well but are happy in learning something new as a result of the show. The next part to compliment this display of music appreciation at it's finest are the writer's segments done by many different types of music lovers affected by the album that are carefully chosen by John ranging from very well known zine owners to, to a member of his theater group, to an everyday person with great passion just to give a few examples of the many that have already participated. It's completely different every time with what you can expect to hear from each writer but also very personal and relatable in seeing how each writer's life has been touched by the album. All these pieces of the podcast fit together like a time capsule you can both appreciate and feel very much a part of because the music belongs to all of us after all!! I highly recommend Jughead's Basement to anyone who feels a connection to music, be it your way of life, or you might just want to learn more. This podcast will give you a new reason to fall in love.

The Chronicles of Punk

John is an excellent interviewer, bringing out great moments from guests to share and wonderful to listen to stories from the scene so many of us were a part of, supporter of or even inspired by. The show gets better and more solid which each episode and John goes one on one with so many bands, singers, songwriters and true creative artists who shaped and lead the punk scene we grew up with and talks about the music that is still playing loudly on turntables, ipods, cassette decks, online or on disc – and of course LIVE.

John, kept up the great work.
