Monks of Light of Spirit Monastery - A Soul Lifter
I absolutely love this Podcast. So far, I can truly say that this particular station has helped in my spiritual growth and especially in my meditations. It is also so wonderful to hear Abbot George's personal experiences with real versus glitter gurus. I recommend!
A friend, a fellow devotee on my spiritual path, forwarded to me a blog written by Abbot George Burke. I found the article clear and helpful, that the abbot's writing seemed wise and insightful. I think the article was about Christianity, but I discovered in reading future blogs that my feelings were the same whether Abbot Burke were writing about Raja Yoga, Buddhism or Christianity. I found this remarkable! He seemed to me a jnani, one with considerable intellect and knowledge, but able to penetrate through the chaff to see the kernels of Truth. Mind you, I'm not in a position of exalted realization to know that Abbot Burke is indeed wise, only that it feels so to me, that it seems that he actually pours light on things that were unclear to me.
Now, when I listened to my first podcast...was I surprised! This "intellectual" comparative religionist sounded like a down-to-earth, practical, funny, ordinary man. What's the Ben Franklin adage, "He's a fool that cannot conceal his wisdom."? Abbot Burke still seems to me to have a prodigious mind and insight, but he seems intelligent rather than intellectual. Isn't that wisdom? I've listened to his podcasts multiple times and recommend them to all, like myself, who do not yet have the will and wisdom to spend their time exclusively in meditation and service to mankind, but still feel the need to fuss around learning a thing or two. Peace.
A True Light
I have had the joy of meeting the Monks of Light of Spirit Monastery. There was wisdom, love, a deep spiritual energy…and joy. This Podcast captures that all of that. Enjoy!
